Maria Clara Antonio Olivos

Weaving Dreams and Traditions

From a young age, Clara Antonio Olivos was fascinated by the skill of the women in her community who practiced the art of deshilado. Watching them work with such love and precision ignited a passion in her to learn and perfect this beautiful craft. Over time, it became not only a skill but also a valuable economic support for her family.

A Life Dedicated to Art

With approximately 20 years of experience, Clara has devoted her life to the art of deshilado. Each stitch is a tribute to the generations that came before her and a reflection of the immense pride she feels for her work. Throughout the years, she has perfected her technique by observing the elders in her village and practicing diligently, always guided and supported by her family, especially her grandmothers, aunts, and sisters.

The Meaning of Being an Artisan

For Clara, being an artisan is much more than a profession; it is a connection to her roots and a homage to the cultural heritage of her community. Learning and understanding the craftsmanship of her ancestors fills her with immense pride.

Dreams of Expansion

Clara dreams of taking her crafts to other parts of the world, showcasing the uniqueness and value of deshilado, a completely manual technique. She wants her art to cross borders and be recognized for its beauty and dedication.

Vision for the Future

Clara’s greatest dream is to ensure that the craft of San Felipe de los Herreros does not fade away and that local artisans receive the support they deserve. With respect and dedication, she continues to work tirelessly to preserve and share the beauty of her traditional craft, ensuring that these ancestral techniques continue to weave stories and dreams for future generations.
