Roots in the Northern Sierra of Oaxaca
I am from the municipality of San Juan Cotzocon Mixes, in the northern Sierra of Oaxaca. My life and my art are deeply rooted in this land, and rich in traditions and culture.
An Artisanal Heritage
I belong to the third generation of artisans in my family. Since I was 8 years old, I learned to weave on a backstrap loom, thanks to the teachings of my grandmother. She passed on to me not only the techniques but also the love and respect for this craft.
The Value of Textiles
In the past, textiles were very undervalued, but they were essential to our community, as we used them to clothe ourselves. Each woven piece carried with it the history and effort of our hands, something I have always carried in my heart.
Preserving and Honoring Tradition
My mission is to preserve this tradition and give it the value it deserves. Each of my weavings is a manifestation of my love for my culture and my desire to keep my family's heritage alive. I aspire for my creations to be recognized and appreciated for their beauty and profound meaning.
