Traditional Handmade Oaxacan Day of the Dead Doll
Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, this Day of the Dead doll from Oaxaca is made with high-quality cotton yarn. Using a traditional treadle loom, Maricarmen coordinates her hands and feet to weave the fabric according to a design we developed from the initial sketch to the final stuffing and assembly.
This doll is inspired by the ancient Toltecs, who believed in attaining eternal life through “death”. They taught that the spirit could be free to embark on a radiant journey to everlasting life only by shedding earthly attachments. This profound belief is consistently represented in the iconography of their codices and calendars.
